Sustainable Durham (AKA- Clean Energy and Sustainable Task Force)

Created by the Board of Selectmen at a Board of Selectmen meeting held on January 28, 2008. 

In early 2020, the committee more closely aligned its work and goals with “Sustainable CT”, a statewide program established in early 2016 to provide municipalities with a menu of coordinated, voluntary actions toward becoming a more resilient, collaborative, and forward-looking community. These efforts are documented and submitted for certification and the community is recognized statewide for its ongoing sustainability achievements.

Primary Goal: To provide education, resources, and support for the Town of Durham in matters of municipal and residential sustainability. The committee strives to enhance the economic, social and natural environment of the Durham community.

The mission of Sustainable Durham is to enhance the municipal and residential environmental stewardship of the Durham community by sharing ideas, researching technologies, and recommending programs related to issues of sustainability. The committee works with other town commissions and local governments to apply these programs and actions towards Sustainable CT certification. Sustainable CT actions help build community and local economy, and equitably promote the health and well-being of current and future residents while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment.
