The Tree Warden is an appointed position within the Town of Durham ans is asked to work closely with the First Selectman and the Department of Public Works.
Duties:
- Responsible for the full cycle of activity of all shade and ornamental trees and shrubs on all public ways and places.
- Planting, pruning, pest control and removal of dead, dying or hazardous trees.
- Maintaining a priority list of potentially troublesome trees and working with DPW to respond to these issues, public complaints and the coordination of emergency removals.
- Maintenance of the health and appearance of our urban forestry
- Work with CTDEP Division of Forestry to secure and manage grants for beautification programs for planting and preservation of trees and shrubs within the town.
- Preservation of our natural resources and the development of our community forestry programs.
